Core question: is what the customer actually buys halal — in substance, contents, and presentation? Product identity must not violate Islamic law by what it is, what it says, or what it shows.

1. Purpose
Criteria 2–3 prove the making is halal. Criterion 4 verifies the outcome: each certified product, its contents as declared, its labeling, and its name/form/presentation.
2. Product disclosure
| Requirement | Evidence |
|---|---|
| Photo of every certified product incl. packaging front/back (labels readable) | photo set in file |
| For each product: which materials are used | product → material mapping from the approved register |
| Mapping matches both the label and the batching records | 配料表 ↔ register ↔ 投料记录 cross-check |
| Product list matches the certificate appendix | register comparison |
| Additions/developments not yet submitted are listed as pending | pending list (internal-audit items 19–20) |
Once every product is disclosed and mapped to its approved materials, the next check is what the label actually declares.
3. Label cross-check (China)
- 配料表 (ingredient list) on the label must reconcile with the approved material register line by line.
- Collective names hide animal origin or alcohol — request the underlying breakdown for:
- 食用油脂 (edible oil/fat — which one, which source?)
- 香辛料 (spices — blends?)
- 食品添加剂 (additives — which E/INS numbers?)
- 食用香精 (flavor — ethanol solvent? animal notes?)
- 酵母 (fermentation route?)
- Photograph other label facts for identity: 净含量 (net weight), 生产日期, 保质期, storage conditions, SC number, 执行标准, manufacturer address.
- Post-certification: use the BPJPH halal label on certified packs; the Chinese 清真 mark is NOT an Indonesian halal logo. Non-halal products in scope carry the “tidak halal” statement regime (see framework).
4. Name, form, and design — Islamic-law screen
Product names, forms/shapes and sensory characteristics must not contradict Islamic law or public ethics and must not lead toward haram:
- ❌ Pork: pig imagery, pig-shaped forms, pork references (猪…, ham/bacon naming where content is pork).
- ❌ Other religions / deities / superstitious figures: 佛跳墙 (Buddha), 唐僧肉, god/immortal names — verify against your LPH’s naming practice.
- ❌ Khamr-evoking names even when alcohol-free: beer/drunken/liquor-named products (啤酒鸭, 醉鸡, rum/liqueur-style naming).
- ⚠️ 清真 claim misuse: Chinese 清真 without proper authority; or a client labeling BPJPH-certified products with a Chinese 清真 mark as if it were the Indonesian one.
- Check mascots, cartoons, and marketing images too — not only the name.
5. Import/export context (why products matter for China clients)
- Raw materials, additives and processing aids are themselves wajib-halal categories (UU 33/2014, PP 42/2024 — see framework): a Chinese material supplier whose product feeds Indonesian certified goods is itself a “product” in scope.
- Finished consumer goods exported to Indonesia also face separate import requirements (label in Bahasa, BPOM/NIE where applicable) on top of the halal certificate — keep both lanes visible in client briefings (map: BPOM & the food-safety lane).
6. Typical non-conformities
- Label 配料表 lists an item (or collective name) absent from / contradicting the approved register.
- Product name/design fails the screen (pork, deity, khamr references).
- Product photo set incomplete or labels unreadable.
- New product on sale but never added to the certificate appendix / pending list.
- 清真 mark used as if it were the Indonesian halal logo.
7. Auditor checklist (quick)
- Photo + readable label of every certified product filed?
- Label 配料表 ↔ approved register reconciled line by line (collective names broken down)?
- Product → material mapping matches batching records?
- Name/form/design screen passed (pork, religion/deity, khamr, 清真 misuse)?
- Product list = certificate appendix; pending additions listed?
- Packaging design & integrity checks passed (internal-audit items 24–25)?
